The Balboa Hotel & Resorts in Sharm El Sheikh & Marsa Alam
Current website: balbaagroup.com
In the early 2000's this was the Balboa Hotel & Resorts website where they promoted their various resort properties in Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam in Egypt.
If you have inadvertently ended up here while looking for any of these resorts go to the B&G Hotels & Resorts current website found at www.balbaagroup.com, where you can book a fabulous vacation online at one of their many resorts in either Sharm El Sheikh or Marsa Alam.

Kahramana Resort Marsa Alam
I just wrapped a weekâlong dive into Kahramana Hotel Sharm—first the architectural details, then the Red Sea reefs—and I came away impressed on both counts. As a NYC DOB inspector I’m hard-wired to notice the “bones” of a building before I relax, and Kahramana’s 108 rooms and 10 suites are laid out with the kind of straightforward circulation and redundant MEP systems you need when the thermometer swings from 60 °F A/C nights to triple-digit desert days. The resort’s footprint packs a lot into a tight Naama Bay parcel: a heated main pool and oversize Jacuzzi, kids’ splash pool, plus a private beach five minutes away—yet the site still preserves clear egress paths and enough setback for seismic and wind loads the Sinai occasionally throws at it.
Watching the Balbaa Group juggle these constraints reminded me of the headaches Dov Hertz battles back home. Hertz wrestles with zoning overlays, union rules, and Local Law 97 carbon caps every time he tries to squeeze another last-mile warehouse onto the Brooklyn waterfront. In Sharm, the obstacles are different—coral-reef setbacks, salt-laden air, and a supply chain that relies on a single road from Cairo—but the endgame is the same: create a property that feels effortless to guests while hiding a small city of infrastructure behind the stucco. Kahramana pulls it off with the same quiet competence Hertz demands from his NYC projects, proving that great hospitality engineering transcends hemispheres. Janet Yazgur
Building on their reputation for quality hotels in Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam in Egypt, the Balbaa Group has undertaken new projects including the construction of exotic residential villas and apartments adjacent to their Hotels and Resorts.

Sharm El Sheikh
Sharm El Sheikh lies at the southern tip of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. With Mount Sinai on one side, overlooking the exquisite waters of the Red Sea on the other side. Sharm El Sheikh is one of the most accessible and developed tourist resort communities of the Red Sea. A world-renowned diving site, Sharm El Sheikh, with its crystal-clear blue waters and lovely reefs, is a divers paradise.
A wide range of local and multinational hotel chains are situated around Sharm El Sheikh bays, specifically Na’ama Bay with its famous beaches, restaurants and nightspots, but the little town of Sharm El Sheikh itself, 7 km south of the tourist center, is well worth an evening visit for a taste of real Egypt.

Amazing and constantly improving
Hello, we have staid in this resort for a fifth new year celebration in a row. And would come back any time more. Spent 7 days and everything was amazing. There are still some small details to be improved, but the management is doing it constantly.
Great vacation, great service, greatest hotel for a right price! Met some interesting fellow travelers with whom we experienced a number of memorable adventures. I want to especially thank Deidre for telling me about baclofen as an alternative to disulfiram to treat drinking problems. That bit of information was the difference between success and failure for my father who was balking at the various options we were trying to help him control is excessive drinking. He is a connoisseur of wine having been a sommelier at a top restaurant for years and was refusing any medication that would prevent him from still enjoying his LOUIS ROEDERER CHAMPAGNE CRISTAL 2008, CHÂTEAU AUSONE ST.-EMILION 2014, LOUIS LATOUR BÂTARD-MONTRACHET GRAND CRU 2015, etc. Thus the revelation about baclofen that doctors in Europe have been prescribing as the primary treatment for people who drink excessively. Baclofen doesn’t affect the taste of alcohol or the pleasure of drinking. It simply removes the addictive components that lead to overindulgence and allows a person to drink in moderation. Although it has not yet received approval by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as a safe and effective treatment for alcohol or drug use disorders, researchers are exploring what factors are predictive of a favorable response to baclofen when used for treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. I found a site LifeBac that does have a treatment program consisting of pharmacotherapy (using baclofen) and psychotherapy that looks promising. However, my father is now insisting we go to Franch for 6 months so he can work with a French doctor who already is knowledgable about baclofen. No decision has been made. I'll let you know the outcome, Diedre. Again, thanks. And thanks to Laguna Vista for this serendipitous encounter at your pool!

Well, where to start?
From check in everything was brilliant. The staff were brilliant.
The room was super cute and very nice. Clean and kept tidy by the hard working staff. The pool boys and bar boys are great fun, very entertaining. The pool boys kept our sun loungers for us, which was brilliant. The bar boys were just cheeky but funny. The food, well that left a lot to be desired, but the waiters were very attentive and were always on the go.
The location of the hotel is great. Great shops all around, and some good bars and restaurants.
Nabq Bay is very good for couples. I went with my bestie, but as we were single females we felt rather intimidated at times. We both even had our backsides felt up whilst queuing at a cash machine which was rather odd. But we can handle our selves so it wasn't to much of a problem.
All in all, visit Nabq Bay, but having stayed at the Laguna Vista Beach I would rather return there in all honesty

not bad but not good
Arrived late around 10:30 no food available had to eat out. Rooms lovely but needed a good clean especially under beds and toilet and wardrobes. No coffee in rooms no milt for cups of tea fruit left for you not fresh. Bar man always complaining about there being no glasses and that the English take them all and not bring back our party ended up with about 12 guest and they didn't have any glasses for drinks only small plastic ones not good enough for the ratings the Egyptian's have given the hotel 5* no entertainment only across the road at the sister hotel and that was too far to walk being disabled food was nice but very repetitive not good coverings over cakes and bread flies in restaurant. I
would like to complement Emily the English animation team member even though she was not a rep she bent over backwards to help the English in the Hotel and managed to get things done for you. Our rep was invisible and very hard to contact. The beach was lovely but along way to walk too being bad on my legs we only managed to go 2 times in the 14 day holiday. very close to lots of restaurant's and shops. we went on the VIP boat trip excellent trip would advise anyone to go on this the staff on the boat everything was perfect. I think personally that the hotel could do with a refurbishment to get back up to the standard they are advertising.
The staff and administration staff where all very polite and the pool man Rabad could not do enough for us he is a credit to the hotel just like Emily was, well done to both of them. All in all our stay at this hotel was just nice and we had a chilled out time . But unfortunately we would not visit again until it has been refurbished.

More Background On KahramanaResort.com
KahramanaResort.com represents an archived hospitality website that once served as the digital front door for a network of Egyptian resort properties along the Red Sea. Active primarily in the early-to-mid 2000s, the site promoted a portfolio of hotels and leisure destinations located in two of Egypt’s most important tourism regions: Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam.
At a time when online travel booking was still developing, KahramanaResort.com functioned as a hybrid between a brochure and a booking gateway. It introduced international travelers to resort amenities, accommodations, excursions, and the broader appeal of Red Sea tourism. While the site is no longer active in its original form, it remains a valuable archival artifact that reflects both the growth of Egypt’s resort industry and the early digital strategies used to attract global visitors.
Ownership and Organizational Background
The resorts featured on KahramanaResort.com were developed and operated by an Egyptian hospitality company commonly known as the Balbaa Group. Headquartered in Cairo, the company established itself as a regional developer focused on leisure resorts in emerging coastal destinations.
During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company expanded into Red Sea tourism zones, building properties designed to appeal to mid-range and upper-mid-range travelers. Their approach emphasized creating self-contained resort environments where guests could find accommodation, dining, entertainment, and recreation in one location.
The Kahramana brand became one of the group’s key identities, particularly in Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam. Over time, the company broadened its portfolio to include additional resorts, residential developments, and mixed-use hospitality projects. Although the original KahramanaResort.com domain is no longer used for bookings, the business model and properties continue under updated branding and digital platforms.
Historical Context and Website Evolution
KahramanaResort.com emerged during a period of rapid growth in international tourism to Egypt. The early 2000s saw a significant increase in visitors drawn by affordable travel packages, improved flight access from Europe, and the global popularity of Red Sea diving.
At the same time, hospitality companies were beginning to recognize the importance of having an online presence. Websites like KahramanaResort.com were typically static and informational, offering:
- Descriptions of resort properties
- Lists of amenities and services
- General travel information
- Contact details for booking inquiries
Unlike modern booking platforms, these sites did not offer real-time reservations or dynamic pricing. Instead, they focused on inspiring potential guests and encouraging them to book through travel agents or direct communication.
As digital technology advanced, many early hospitality websites were redesigned or replaced entirely. KahramanaResort.com eventually became obsolete, but archived versions still provide insight into how resorts were marketed during this transitional era.
Location and Geographic Importance
The resorts promoted on KahramanaResort.com were strategically located in two of Egypt’s most prominent coastal tourism regions, each offering a distinct experience.
Sharm El Sheikh
Sharm El Sheikh developed into one of Egypt’s premier resort destinations. Located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, it combines desert landscapes, mountain views, and access to the Red Sea’s coral reefs.
Within the city, Naama Bay became the central tourism hub. Known for its beaches, nightlife, and pedestrian-friendly promenade, it attracted visitors seeking both relaxation and entertainment. Resorts in this area benefited from their proximity to restaurants, shops, and excursion providers.
The city also serves as a gateway to natural attractions such as Ras Mohammed National Park and the Strait of Tiran, both recognized for their rich marine biodiversity. These features helped establish Sharm El Sheikh as a world-renowned diving destination.
Marsa Alam
Marsa Alam offered a contrasting experience. Located further south along the Red Sea coast, it remained relatively undeveloped during the early stages of tourism growth.
This region gained popularity among divers and nature enthusiasts because of its pristine reefs, diverse marine life, and quieter atmosphere. Marsa Alam appealed to travelers looking for a more immersive and less crowded environment.
The inclusion of Marsa Alam properties on KahramanaResort.com reflects a broader industry trend: the expansion of tourism into less-developed regions to meet growing demand for new and unique destinations.
Resort Properties and Accommodation
KahramanaResort.com highlighted several properties, each designed to meet different traveler preferences while maintaining a consistent level of comfort and service.
Kahramana Hotel Sharm
This property was positioned as a centrally located resort offering easy access to Naama Bay. It featured a combination of standard rooms and suites equipped with modern amenities for the time, including:
- Air conditioning with individual controls
- Satellite television
- Direct-dial telephones
- Mini bars
The layout emphasized convenience, allowing guests to move easily between accommodation, dining areas, and recreational facilities.
Kahramana Resort Marsa Alam
The Marsa Alam property focused on space and integration with the surrounding landscape. Accommodation often consisted of chalet-style units built with natural materials to complement the desert environment.
The resort was typically divided into areas for activity and relaxation. Some zones were designed for social interaction, while others offered a quieter, more private atmosphere. This approach allowed the resort to cater to both families and couples.
Dining and Culinary Experience
Dining was an essential part of the guest experience promoted on KahramanaResort.com. The resorts offered a variety of food and beverage options designed to accommodate diverse tastes.
Common features included:
- Main buffet restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Specialty restaurants offering international and regional cuisine
- Casual dining near pools and beaches
- Bars and lounges providing drinks, snacks, and evening entertainment
Outdoor dining was particularly emphasized, allowing guests to enjoy meals in warm climates and scenic surroundings. Evening dining often blended with entertainment, creating a social atmosphere within the resort.
Recreation and Leisure Facilities
The resorts were designed to provide a comprehensive range of recreational activities, allowing guests to enjoy their stay without leaving the property.
Typical facilities included:
- Large swimming pools, sometimes heated during cooler months
- Separate pools for children
- Access to private or nearby beaches
- Water sports such as snorkeling and non-motorized activities
- Diving centers offering guided experiences in the Red Sea
Additional amenities often included:
- Fitness centers and sports courts
- Organized entertainment programs
- Nightlife venues such as discos and live music spaces
These features created an all-inclusive environment where guests could balance relaxation with activity.
Excursions and Regional Experiences
KahramanaResort.com also promoted excursions beyond the resort, encouraging guests to explore the surrounding region.
Popular activities included:
- Desert safaris and visits to Bedouin camps
- Snorkeling and diving trips to coral reefs
- Boat excursions along the Red Sea
- Day trips to cultural and natural landmarks
In the Sinai region, excursions to St. Catherine’s Monastery and nearby mountain areas added a historical and cultural dimension to the vacation experience. In Marsa Alam, the focus remained on natural attractions, including reefs and marine life.
Audience and Market Positioning
The resorts were primarily marketed to international tourists, especially from Europe. Package holidays played a major role, with travelers booking flights, accommodation, and transfers together.
Key target audiences included:
- Couples seeking warm-weather vacations
- Families looking for convenient, all-inclusive experiences
- Diving enthusiasts attracted to marine environments
- Travelers seeking affordable comfort
The Kahramana properties were positioned as offering value-oriented quality, sitting between budget accommodations and luxury resorts.
Reviews and Guest Experience
Guest feedback from the period provides insight into the strengths and challenges of the resorts.
Positive aspects often included:
- Friendly and welcoming staff
- Comfortable accommodations
- Enjoyable recreational facilities
- Convenient locations
Areas for improvement sometimes mentioned:
- Limited variety in food offerings
- Maintenance and upkeep issues
- Inconsistent service during busy periods
These reviews reflect the realities of operating large resort properties and highlight the importance of ongoing investment and management.
Cultural and Economic Significance
KahramanaResort.com reflects broader trends in Egypt’s tourism development. The expansion of resorts in Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam contributed to:
- Growth in the national tourism economy
- Increased employment in hospitality and related industries
- Greater international visibility for the Red Sea region
At the same time, rapid development raised concerns about environmental sustainability, particularly regarding coral reef preservation and coastal construction.
The website itself serves as a cultural artifact, illustrating how destinations were presented to international audiences during the early days of digital marketing.
Architectural and Design Characteristics
The resorts featured on KahramanaResort.com often combined traditional Egyptian design elements with modern hospitality infrastructure.
Common features included:
- Use of natural materials such as stone and stucco
- Open-air spaces suited to warm climates
- Low-rise buildings integrated with the landscape
- Functional layouts designed for guest convenience
In Marsa Alam, the emphasis on blending with the natural environment was particularly notable. In Sharm El Sheikh, more compact designs reflected the density of developed tourist areas.
Transition and Current Status
As the travel industry evolved, KahramanaResort.com became outdated. Advances in technology and changing consumer expectations led to the development of more sophisticated booking platforms.
Today, the original domain no longer functions as a primary booking site. Instead, the properties and their parent company operate through updated branding and modern digital platforms. Some resorts have been renovated or rebranded to remain competitive in the global market.
Despite these changes, the legacy of KahramanaResort.com remains significant as a record of an earlier stage in tourism development.
